About This Course
The PADI Mermaid Course offers a comprehensive introduction to the world of mermaiding. It includes both knowledge development and at least two water skills sessions, focusing on more advanced and dynamic skills beyond the basics. This course allows you to explore mermaiding as an underwater, self-expressive art form, distinct from other types of diving. Please note that the PADI Mermaid Course encompasses the Basic Mermaid curriculum, so there is no need to take the Basic Mermaid Course separately.
To enroll, participants must at least 10 years old:
In good physical health
Comfortable in the water
Able to swim a minimum of 50 meters (160 feet) without swimming aids
Able to float comfortably on the water's surface for at least 5 minutes
As an entry-level mermaid course, no prior snorkeling or diving experience is required.
Academic Overview
The PADI Mermaid Course is divided into two phases:
Knowledge Development: This is completed through independent study using the PADI Mermaid eLearning program. (Alternatively, if eLearning is not available in your language, your instructor may conduct in-person class sessions.)
Confined Water Sessions: There are two confined water sessions where you will learn and practice essential mermaiding skills, including rescue and problem management techniques.
During these sessions, you'll master mermaid-specific skills, including:
Dolphin (butterfly) kicks
C-shape turns
U-shape side turns
Additionally, you'll learn unique mermaid maneuvers such as:
Backward somersault turns
Underwater handshakes
Mermaid bubbles
Back glides
